Halloween 2011

Halloween isn't all that creepy these days! Am I the only one who has noticed this lately. This Halloween, everyone I came across was in a great mood. There were Halloween carnivals, trick or treating and little ones running around in costumes that were more cheerful than spooky. So for those who are usually turned away by the dark tone of Halloween, take a moment next year to look around you. Look at how it brings communities, organizations and families together. Think about how man organizations such as PAL of Santa Monica, who use it as an evening suited to promote safety awareness. Happy Halloween!

New Born Photo Session

There's nothing like stepping away from events to capture a precious newborn. Shooting babies always feels like a new experience even for me as the photographer. I shot 3 week old, Emeka Jr. His parents and I had the toughest time getting him into a comfortable position that would allow us to shoot for more than 10 seconds. : ) Despite the circumstances, we did quite well. Once he got comfortable for long enough I would fire away! His parents were super happy to have DVR do first photos of their son. What I enjoy most aesthetically about these images is the refreshing orange, greens and blues and how they bounce off of the white backdrop. Enjoy!

Nicole & John Forever!

So... Nicole and John did it BIG in LaJolla, California on 10/9. The day couldn't have been more beautiful. Perfect day for photography. The courtyard was full of trees and flowers, which looked like an oil painting when we dissolved the background image. My crew of 5 was pretty busy that day because we covered for both video and photography. The day was like a blur so I'm sure these newly weds will enjoy reliving the joy that filled the air on that day.

I'd like to give a shout out to my professional crew who made this day possible. Job well done guys! And the DJ was on it during the reception. You can alway rate a DJ by how long guest stay on the dance floor. adam.loatman@gmail.com His play list and overall music mix was classic. I'll be referring adam to my clients for sure. I'll have a highlight reel up soon. It'll be pretty exciting to watch. The best of the best cut down to 3 or so minutes.

Los Angeles Wedding Photographer_Groomsmen Fitting Shoot

Throughout the years I've put a lot of thought into how to bring about bright, vibrant eye catching images. Every once in a while I'll zap all saturation and go for a more classic look. Generally the same principles apply. However I've found that it helps to slightly over expose without compromising too much contrast and detail. When it's time to edit in post the transition to the black and white classic look from color is much easier to attain. There's something about black and white that is so attractive. If forces the viewers eye to look deeper into composition and what the image is communicating.

I captured a few shots of the groom and his guys at the Men's Warehouse for the formal fitting. It was such a good time! Life long friends, reminising about the good times... The entire spread was done in black and white. It was ideal for the occasion .

Morning Shoot @ Marina Pier

Hey folks! Thanks for checking in to see what DVR has been up to. I had an awesome time in Marina Del Rey Pier shooting a couple of models. Nothing too fancy just nice natural poses, vibrant color, and taking advantage of the morning sun. The structures there are so colorful and show beautifully in the final image especially when you can bouncy an eye catching color into the mix, like the pink over blue that you see below. I have a confession to make; shooting events are really fun because I get the opportunity to meet people and visit different venues. Not to mention the good FOOD! However, every once and a while it's nice to go out for a relaxing Sunday and shoot models at your own pace. The end results are always worth while.

Here I actually had live music to work to. I think it got me into a nice zone. :) But seriously, you have to be on it to shoot with the Zeiss primes, fully manual.

Hopefully this one makes the Album cover! :)

Los Angeles Photographer_ EJ Baby Shower

This weekend I covered a baby shower. It was absolutely beautiful! What a way to bring new life into the world. Friends and family got together to show Jolie and Emeka great support. It was great connecting with a childhood friend too. Take a look at these shots. You'll really feel the magic in just about every frame. I'm looking forward to doing their newborn session. Jacksonville, North Carolina Talent

This past weekend I shot an awesome set of siblings! They enjoyed themselves and I think I had more fund than they did. We were at a nice neighborhood park in Jacksonville, NC. Check them out. Kids are usually so much fun because they are less reserved and are just themselves when in front of the camera. I also shot baby Chase this past weekend. He's truly a star because it's almost like he know that he needs to pose for the camera; an absolute natural. Best wishes go out to all who were victimized the hurricanes a couple of week ago. Many community members are still trying to get their lives back together again.

Hello all!

Just thought I would upload a couple of great shots from the MALT 13 celebration dinner back in July. Thanks to Jill for arranging the city club in downtown Los Angeles. It was the most amazing view ever! Here's to a year of hard work, collaborations, knowledge building.

Oh and the food was great too! :)
